Details: In a recent survey carried out by Nettleden.com, 90% of people surveyed said that Monkton Farleigh Mine should be a historically listed site and that the public should have access to it. 6% believed that the site should be listed but public access should be restricted and 4% (just two people) said that Monkton Farleigh Mine shouldn't be listed as it represents no historical significance.

Details: UUEG are planning a summer BBQ one Sunday afternoon in July, anyone with an interest in underground and urban exploration is welcome. The location is not yet confirmed but will be in the Wiltshire area in a public spot (woods, park or footpath etc). Title: Box Freestone Map
Details: The small map of Box Quarry which was available on the downloads page has been taken down due to a dispute with the producers of a Box map as the passagways marked on my version of the map came from their publication. I will upload a new version shortly, possibly without a passages marked on as I don't think I will be able to get this information from another source. If anyone has another version of the Box map which they would like to share please contact us.

Title: Are You Local?
Details: It seems that the locals of Monkton Farleigh are turning in to charactors from The League of Gentlemen and they don't like strangers in the village, please try and respect there feelings, park sensibly and stick to foot paths. Unfortunatly these locals are giving us problems on the forum at the moment, we are discussing whether to change the forums setup so that only registered users can make posts but I don't like the idea of restricting it, I think anyone should have access to the facility. Hopefully the nuisance postings will pass and the hype will die down. Any off topic posts will now be deleted and offencive or accusing posts will not be tolerated. To join in with the heated debates click here.

Title: Zip Files
Details: Zipped photo albums have been removed from the site due to the bandwidth problems. Last month 32 people downloaded the Monkton Farleigh zipped photo file this totals about 74,000 KB which is double the sites average traffic in a day so by removing the file I hope I will stretch another to days out of the server this month.

Title: Service Annoucement
Details: Nettleden.com went offline yesterday (29 April) due to restriction set by our host server, we exceeded our monthly bandwidth limit of 1000MB which resulted in the website being closed down until the 1st of next month (Friday). Sorry for the disruption in service. I have made some changes already to how much is hosted on the server which may help the situation a bit next month but I expect this problem to continue over the next few months until I can find a reasonably priced fix to the problem.

Title: 05/04/2003
Details: It's now only three weeks to go untill the UUEG/Nettleden day trip. As you know we will be having an underground BBQ so please pack any food you need, I'm sure there will be spare going around but it would be great if everyone could bring something plus whatever drink you need. I strongly suggested that you bring head gear and some over clothes or old clothes as you are going to get dirty. The day has been planned out and my self and Rich (Worzel) have all the relivant maps and routes planned out so don't worry about that. Brian has also suggested that you bring knee pads as there will be some crawling (if you don't fancy this there is an alternative route). We have music and equipment sorted for the BBQ unless anyone can get hold of a dissposable BBQ or two as they are a bit scarce this time of year - it would make it much easier than lugging charcole underground though.
For meeting time and place please contact me via the forum, text or call me on 07816 285931.

Title: Day Trip
Details: Today's day trip didn't really happen, Scott couldn't make it and the lads from Kent couldn't make it down to Wiltshire due to the snow. Jimbo came along for a couple of hours, I meet up with him in The Quarrymans Arms where I bought a copy of the excellent video Deep, Dark and Dusty. We then went to check the doorway which was spotted along the track from the Eastern portal of the Box Tunnel, it turned out to be just a small recess room. I had a quick drive around Monkton Farleigh where I stopped for a sandwhich near the main East entrance and then returned home.

Title: Day Trip
Details: The day started today at 9:30 when we all meet up and drove first to Ridge Quarry. I showed Mike and Andy around there as they didn't have a full explore last time. I tried out my new torch which was fantastic, it lit the whole place up and I look forward to seeing how the photos come out with the additional light. After Ridge Quarry and a bite to eat we head towards RAF Rudloe to try and find Sands Quarry. We found the entrance easily enough in some woods near by. The slope shaft was well secured with a locked entrance and high perimeter fencing. As Sands Quarry is owned (although disused) by the MOD we didn't hang around there for too long. We then went in search of the entrance to Brewers Yard Quarry, we found the very steep slope shaft and decided that it wasn't the weather to try and venture down that, it's very steeped and looked VERY slippery. We head back towards home and found the ROC post in Hallen, just minutes from Mike's house. The access hatch was locked but it looked as if it was in pretty good condition although every where is so water logged at the moment that I would be very surprised if it wasn't flooded.
